In February 2020, Hair Love won the Oscar for the best animated short film. It tells the heartfelt story of an African American father learning to do his daughter’s hair for the first time. It also sparked renewed national conversation around race-based hair discrimination around the country.

We’re excited to bring together panelists with an expertise in hair & dermatology as well as film & craft. We will host a screening and discussion where we’ll dig into reactions about the film, both personal and societal. We’ll also talk about the impact that art can have and how we can look to action with legislation like The Crown Act.

We’ll use the first 6 minutes to watch the film together, but feel free to also watch it in advance – it’s definitely something worth watching more than once. We look forward to seeing you there and hearing what you think too!
